Eurotank Environmental has carried out a pipework replacement after finding corroded steel during an investigation into the cause of a leak alarm.
The site near Warminster in Wiltshire had a water reading from one of their tanks so a Eurotank team was sent to test the tank and pipework.
On investigation, water presence was confirmed and the engineer identified corroded pipework inside the tank chamber after it was established that the leak hadn’t come from the tank lid.
A repair team was dispatched to replace the suction pipework in the tank chamber, along with a tanker to uplift the water and water-contaminated fuel from the unleaded tank.
The team also tested the replaced suction line fittings, primed the pumps and tested fuel quality before putting the tank back into action.
Jack Aplin, Eurotank’s Group Sales Director, said: “Old steel pipework is at high risk of failure for a couple of reasons. Firstly, simply their age – single-skin steel and pipework could be decades old – and also the higher ethanol content in modern biofuels can cause steel corrosion.”
